Evolution versus Development
General Omar Bradley of World War II fame, once said.
“We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount...The world has achieved brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we do about peace, more about killing than we know about living”
I think the General is right. We have in the last 10 thousand years excelled in and found ourselves experts at many things that are counter our own interest. The why we develop the land for example. Another is the way we chose to use the resources available to us. Every bit of evidence is clear, diversity is a good thing and beneficial to our well being. And yet hundreds of species have gone the way of the Dodo Bird because of the lack of environmental ethics. We have driven them into extension. In doing so, we may have also moved our selves closer to extension. We can and must do better.
